Finally, we could reach the end of Tuz Gölü. When I thought the all term duration, final and beginning (travel of Tuz Gölü and Nevşehir) are my favorite part of all the process time. Clearly, I can say that instead of beginning and end, the process is boring for me.
After my comments, I want to mention my final jury. Especially, since the beginning, I want to continue the same strategy that protects main features of Tuz Gölü ‘white flat surface and orientation to the horizon line’. Because they give a sense of infinity to people and based on my analyzing, it is so unique experience for people. Also to preserve orientation property through Josephine, grafted spaces are located and multiplied by taking references from the hills backward so two different axes were obtained. At the same time, spaces on these two axes block the vista of hills, concrete Josephine line as framed. Consequently, they aimed also to enrich vista of Josephine. Actually, this design decision so compelling for me in all process, I struggled with these axes angles, their differences, and relation but I think that in final I deal with these problems.
I received my grafting idea, I grafted from Göreme different enclosure level of spaces and the different scale of spaces. Then I combined these ideas the concept of verticality and horizontality. Horizontal spaces are defined as wide and lower ones and vertical spaces are defined as higher and narrow. Consequently, the definition of spatial concepts directly relevant to scale condition in Göreme. (Big scaled one minister to common spaces and they included smaller subspaces which called as private spaces etc. So, we experience them in that sense.) Human experiences are diversified on two axes hence horizontality and verticality concepts. Also in vertical spaces, the design included vertical element dominantly and horizontal part as well. In that case, horizontal became more enclosed than the vertical part. These two axes include horizontal and vertical spaces. Between two axes, there is a court which provides to preserve orientation. When the spaces are positioned and formed, they refer to the opposite axis. They are not unaware of each other or irrelevant. With paths in court, axes have physical relations and for path and relation visibility, vertical spaces convert to horizontal spaces so axes changed their spatial qualities in path part. This concept also advanced also circulation idea in design. To provide approach from the road with topography changing to the beginning of design, people have collected a point then they have three options to the vertical axis, to the horizontal axis and to court. About scenario of the vertical axis, it directs to people and framed because of the quality of verticality and for enriching the experience I used angled walls and different height of walls. Dominantly, vertical spaces extend to one direction but with other direction of spaces and path its direction power decrease. About scenario of horizontality, it included under the ramp spaces or different level changing, also on the surface of spaces people can run and stand. Horizontality provided different vistas all environments. This is nearly all my design designs.
About jury comment, the way of the approach to the design problem and the tools were created as an answer to the question which is the multiplicity of spaces. So it is a good start and sound strategy. (One hand we have horizontal spaces another hand we have vertical ones, the project is defined by graduation of these spaces. This concept was also liked.) Main execute has some problems. The basic problem that appears is the multiplicity of horizontal elements in the vertical axis and the multiplicity of verticals in the horizontal one. They still strongly depend on opposite ones and spaces are defined by also them. Consequently, they have to be minimized so that this classification is more readable. In other words, the balance between the verticality and horizontality in own axes is a little bit contradictive. Horizontality and verticality concept should be considered and defined again; how much high or wide, according to what, how was decided more condition? Search different definitions of horizontality and verticality in terms of experiences not only in terms of the spaces and enclosure conditions in itself. Think on how a person experiences vertically and horizontally. The changes between spaces visible but not enough, they are very tiny and slight, so that they do not introduce a different kind of experiences. Also, their merging way is all same. They produce similar spatial conditions. Extremities of them might be worked on. The spaces are quite satisfactory when we think about the proportion of the spaces and human dimensions together.
The drawings have very high potential and successful in terms of architectural presentation.Plan drawings are very well-disciplined however, they intended to describe a structure with very different and moving layers, they explained more with shadowing technique and they were more impressive.
